Last year I felt helpless watching my daughter-in-law, Randi, as she walked toward a gate at Westchester County Airport struggling to carry a car seat, diaper bag and purse while pushing a stroller and holding onto my 2-year-old grandson Eli.
Since I didn’t have a ticket, I couldn’t walk beyond the security point to help her to the gate.
After seeing Randi in such a difficult position, as much juggler as Mom, I figured there had to be a better way for both her and for the millions of other parents who fly with their children each year — some 4,500,000 families at last count.
So I got to work. After 14 prototypes and 150 interviews with traveling parents and grandparents at three different airports, the need was obvious: I could have sold 140 Pac Backs if they were in the interviewer’s car. As a result, both a product and a company were born.
Pac Back is essentially a deluxe back pack without the storage area. By simply fastening 2 nylon quick clips, the car seat or booster seat is securely attached to the carrier.
The product is built on an internal frame system, with heavy-duty webbing, nylon clips and, most important, padded shoulder straps and hip protectors — the same materials and configuration found on the finest mountain back packs. The Pac Back is built to last for years and years.
In the coming months, we plan to launch more innovative products that are hands-free and will help make your traveling much easier.
PLEASE NOTE: PAC BACK IS DESIGNED TO CARRY ONLY A CAR OR BOOSTER SEAT. IT SHOULD NEVER BE USED TO CARRY A CHILD. PAC BACK IS DESIGNED TO CARRY ONLY ONE (1) CAR OR BOOSTER SEAT AT A TIME.
